As a celebration of Astor Piazzolla’s life and art, Jyväskylä Sinfonia and Henrik Sandås, led by conductor Emilia Hoving, dive into the world of the iconic Argentinian composer and bandoneonist. The performance includes Sandås’ symphonic arrangements of Piazzolla’s Angel series, among other pieces.

Piazzolla revolutionized Argentinian tango and created a new genre, tango nuevo – a skilful mix of other musical genres and the exoticism and romanticism of traditional tango. The melancholia of the bandoneon and lyricism of the violin tell stories of joy, sorrow, love, loss and loneliness in the forgotten quarters of Buenos Aires.
